Aspen
Aspen, Colorado is a small town with a gigantic reputation. It is one of the most popular year-round ski resorts in the United States and is a favorite playground for the rich and famous. At an elevation of 7,908 feet, Aspen is a winter wonderland with spectacular scenery, fine dining, shopping boutiques, and of course, skiing. Although skiing is what Aspen is most known for, there are plenty of other fun activities to partake in. Wintertime activities include downhill and cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, ice-skating, and, in January, the Winterskol Carnival. Winter sports are what Aspen is known for but the town is a popular summer destination also. Prices are significantly lower and the resort is less crowded. Warm-weather activities include biking, hiking, horseback riding, white-water rafting and fishing. Every summer from late June to late August, Aspen is host to the Aspen Music Festival with more than 100 classical music performances. Aspen is a small town that is basically divided into three main sections: Downtown, the West End, and the East End. Snowmass Village is a resort with its own identity but since it is only 10 miles from Aspen they are often closely associated.
Downtown
where the action is. Old renovated Victorian houses and brick buildings house the many ski shops, trendy boutiques, chic restaurants, and pubs that keep the area hopping along the tree-lined streets. Trails on the ski slopes of Aspen Mountain actually end right in town.
East End
The East End is a quiet residential neighborhood that is situated among the trees and is divided by the Roaring Fork River.
Snowmass Village - a world-class resort of its own right with 32 restaurants and bars, 25 retail shops, a golf course, outdoor festivals, and a wide variety of lodging options. Complimentary shuttle buses serve the entire village.
West End
Many of Aspen's hotels, rental condos, and bed and breakfasts are located in the West End. The neighborhood is mainly a quiet residential area.
